The New Learning Building enables Wintec to embrace emerging educational methodologies. It flexibly accommodates new learning practices while playing a wider campus organisation role, stitching the campus together from north-to-south via a wide pedestrian spine, connecting a sequence of new and existing open spaces and forming a smart new street presence.
From the top of the campus the new building steps down the site via gently sloping ramps. It is composed of distinct forms: the upper volume overhangs the lower, providing built-in shelter and shade, and appears almost effortlessly suspended by three-level glazed space below. Here, opportunities for learning extend right up to – and beyond – the building envelope, with seating plinths, bay windows, long benches and loose furniture all flexible tools for varied study, collaboration and learning. At the building edge, sheltered steps provide for informal learning and social activities and a new terraced upper boulevard provides complementary outdoor space closely connected to the existing central quad.
