The large floor areas of industrial buildings often appeal to creative industries. An abundance of space allows for all styles of working, from focused work to congregation and collaboration. In 2013, Hamilton’s King Street Advertising engaged MOAA to convert a warehouse into a contemporary open-plan work environment. The reworked space allows 20 staff members to be arranged in teams, facilitating cross-communication and innovation.
To equip the space for modern workplace occupation, large windows were inserted to increase ambient light levels, the existing concrete floors were polished and, to temper the affect of the hard surface, acoustic panels were installed on the ceiling. A mural, by Underwater Collective, enlivens the concrete wall that runs the length of the office. The artwork’s predominantly orange colour notes have also been extended to the furniture.
